August 2023: Exploring a partnership with a limited first conversation
Retrospective archive for August 2023. Prepared on 6 October 2026; this is not an original article from that period.
A potential partnership does not need a full delivery plan in its first meeting. August 2023 is a useful archive point for discussing fit, contribution and boundaries before either organisation starts relying on the other.
Context for the period
The RBA’s August 2023 overview described easing goods inflation alongside persistent services price pressures. Read the contemporary RBA overview.
A practical approach
Explain the shared question you want to explore. Identify the information each party can provide and the decisions that require separate approval. Avoid making capability claims that cannot be supported. Keep a proposed trial small enough that its purpose and completion conditions can be explained plainly.
An illustrative example
For instance, two organisations consider whether a joint information session would be useful. Their first discussion addresses audience, purpose and responsibilities. It does not assume that the session has been approved or that either party may use the other’s branding. Record what must be checked before a defined proposal can be considered.
Three points to take into the conversation
- Explore the shared question
- Define possible responsibilities
- Check approval requirements
Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its own enquiry route.
