Restart supplier conversations with current facts
Practical answer: Restart supplier conversations with current facts
Send a concise restart note that identifies the previous conversation and the decision now required. Reconfirm the specification, preferred timing and contact details. Ask whether the supplier’s earlier indications remain current. Keep a dated record of the answer rather than silently editing the earlier quote or notes.
The first business conversations of January can inherit assumptions from the previous year. A price, lead time or contact person discussed in December may need confirmation before it becomes the basis of a new request.
Economic context
The RBA’s November 2021 overview described an economic recovery alongside persistent pressure on global supply chains and logistics. Read the RBA overview.
An illustrative example
A hypothetical enquiry about equipment supply resumes after a shutdown. The buyer checks whether the proposed model remains available and whether the supplier still expects the same dispatch window. If either has changed, the buyer updates the brief before asking for approval. The aim is a current shared understanding, rather than a hurried continuation of last year’s conversation.
Three points to take into the conversation
- Locate the previous brief
- Reconfirm assumptions
- Update the next decision
Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
