Close the financial year with an enquiry register
Practical answer: Close the financial year with an enquiry register
Sort open items by the next required action. Distinguish a request awaiting a reply from a proposal awaiting internal review and an introduction that no longer needs follow-up. Confirm the owner and timing for each active item. Financial and tax records have their own requirements; a marketing enquiry register should not substitute for them.
A June review can improve business records without trying to solve every outstanding commercial issue at once. The enquiry register is a sensible starting point because it shows which conversations need a decision in the next financial year.
Economic context
The RBA’s May 2022 overview described higher global inflation and continuing challenges in supply chains. Read the RBA overview.
An illustrative example
For example, an unanswered supplier question may need a brief clarification, while a partnership proposal may need an internal discussion before any reply is appropriate. Record those different next steps instead of marking both “pending”. Finish the review with a short list of decisions and a date to revisit genuinely unresolved items.
Three points to take into the conversation
- Sort open conversations
- Confirm action owners
- Carry forward real decisions
Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
