Evidence for a supplier relationship review
Practical answer: Evidence for a supplier relationship review
Use dates, agreed expectations and recorded communications. Separate what happened from why it may have happened. Invite clarification where the cause is uncertain. Describe the future requirement plainly and use the appropriate commercial process for any proposed change. A general process review should not make unsupported allegations.
A supplier review is more constructive when observations can be checked. In May 2024, prepare a short record of the matters relevant to the relationship before discussing the next year’s requirements.
Economic context
The RBA’s May 2024 overview described inflation easing more gradually than expected and subdued demand growth ahead. Read the RBA overview.
An illustrative example
A hypothetical record shows that two requests for delivery clarification went unanswered until a second contact was involved. The business can ask how to direct those questions more effectively. It does not assume bad intent or claim the entire relationship has failed. Specific evidence supports a useful conversation and a proportionate next action.
Three points to take into the conversation
- Gather relevant records
- Separate fact and explanation
- Discuss a practical improvement
Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
