Turn business meetings into usable actions

March 27, 2025•2 min read

Practical answer: Turn business meetings into usable actions

Look at the decisions, questions and owners in recent notes. Check whether actions describe a concrete task and an appropriate review date. Identify repeated discussions caused by missing information. Keep the review focused on the process; it should not make unsupported claims about revenue, efficiency or customer outcomes.

A calendar full of meetings does not show whether enquiries are becoming clearer. At the end of March 2025, review whether business discussions finish with an action that someone can understand and complete.

Economic context

The RBA’s February 2025 overview described moderating inflation, subdued private demand and a labour market that remained strong. Read the RBA overview.

An illustrative example

For example, a hypothetical meeting note says “look into supplier options”. A clearer action asks a named person to obtain two comparable proposals against the current brief before the next review. The improved wording helps the person act and gives the reviewer something observable to check. Apply that discipline to the next few discussions.

Three points to take into the conversation

  1. Review meeting actions
  2. Make the task concrete
  3. Check completion evidence

Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
