Year-end handover of unfinished decisions

December 27, 2025•2 min read

Practical answer: Year-end handover of unfinished decisions

For every open item, record the decision required, its supporting documents and the latest agreed position. Identify the next owner and review date. Distinguish an estimate, a provisional view and an approved commitment. Keep sensitive material in the authorised record location rather than duplicating it in a general closure note.

Unfinished decisions are easy to lose when a year-end handover concentrates only on completed work. A December 2025 summary should preserve the questions a returning colleague or contact will need to resolve.

Economic context

The RBA’s November 2025 overview described stronger inflationary pressure than previously expected alongside a recovery in private demand. Read the RBA overview.

An illustrative example

For example, a hypothetical supplier proposal is awaiting clarification of a delivery condition. The handover names that question and the person who will pursue it after reopening. The next reviewer can understand why the decision remains pending. Confirm that the receiving person can locate the current documents before treating the handover as complete.

Three points to take into the conversation

  1. Preserve the pending question
  2. Locate its evidence
  3. Assign the restart owner

Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
