Compare alternative suppliers using one brief
Practical answer: Compare alternative suppliers using one brief
Give each potential supplier the same essential requirements. Compare the specification, exclusions, delivery assumptions and follow-up questions in separate columns. If an alternative changes a requirement, record the change and explain why it is acceptable or still unresolved. A low headline price should not hide a missing component or a different delivery obligation.
When supply options change, a business can accidentally compare different offers as if they answered the same request. A March 2022 supplier review benefits from a stable brief that makes substitutions and delivery differences visible.
Economic context
The RBA’s February 2022 overview described recovery from Delta lockdowns and the effect of Omicron-related absences on hours worked. Read the RBA overview.
An illustrative example
For example, two suppliers offer similar equipment, but one proposal excludes installation. The review records installation separately and seeks clarification before anyone calls the offers equivalent. Keep the comparison with the decision record so a later reviewer can see what was actually considered. Supplier selection still requires the organisation’s own commercial assessment.
Three points to take into the conversation
