Recheck a proposal when conditions change
Practical answer: Recheck a proposal when conditions change
Identify the proposal version, validity period and unresolved requirements. Ask the supplier whether the offer remains current. Keep any updated assumptions in a dated clarification. Commercial approval should use the actual terms and the organisation’s own assessment, rather than a general economic forecast.
Broad economic conditions can change while a proposal remains open. A February 2025 review should check the specific offer instead of assuming that a wider trend automatically changes price, suitability or delivery.
Economic context
The RBA’s February 2025 overview described moderating inflation, subdued private demand and a labour market that remained strong. Read the RBA overview.
An illustrative example
A hypothetical buyer has an older estimate and a newer specification. It asks for a current offer that refers to the revised requirements, then reviews the result on the same basis as other proposals. That sequence prevents the decision-maker from relying on a price attached to a different scope. Record the next decision and its owner.
Three points to take into the conversation
- Locate the relevant offer
- Reconfirm its assumptions
- Review the actual terms
Before progressing the conversation, check that the purpose, current information, responsible contact and next review date are clear. For a corporate-information, supplier or partnership enquiry, contact EJN Services through its enquiry page.
